Arendal Herregaard

In 1928, 3 local merchants decided to build a new hotel on Tromøy. The view was formidable, and people from far and wide discovered this gem, with a good climate and a great landscape. During social gatherings there was loud talking, smoking and discussion. The topics were many, and often of an international nature, perhaps reminiscing about a recently passed heyday. With sailing ships and hectic trade, Arendal was among Europe’s largest ports. Perhaps they were discussing how to steer clear of the same mistakes made before the crash of 1886, now that the shipping companies in the area were getting back on their feet.

The hotel currently owns Norway’s largest collection of paintings of sailing ships by Carl B Hestman. Look around and dream away, or sit down in the library and read the books about Arendal, sailing ships and their stories.

Arendal Herregaard Spa & Resort is located majestically 250 meters from the Skagerrak coast in Hove, Tromøy. Outside the door you will find Spornes beach and RAET National Park with great hiking and recreational opportunities and countless swimming spots.
